Biography of John Parrott

John B. Parrott has Master's degrees in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh and Georgetown University and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. He has taught at Oglethorpe University and Kennesaw State College in Georgia, and Kutztown University in Pennsylvania and the Scranton campus of the Pennsylvania State University. Prior to his teaching career he served as an Air Force intelligence officer, where before retiring at the rank of lieutenant colonel he saw duty in Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He is currently a writer and independent scholar. He has published articles in a variety of media and appeared on television news programs and radio talk shows. He has written Being Like God: How American Elites Abuse Politics and Power, published by The University Press of America in 2003. His latest article is "George Lakoff's New Happiness," which ran as the lead piece in the Fall 2009 issue of Academic Questions, the journal of the National Association of Scholars. He is the founder and publisher of Proteus's Compass Publishers, where he self-publishes inspirational books for young adults and devotes the proceeds to institutions that serve disadvantaged children.
