Sarah's Promise
"Every morning of Sarah’s life the sun
would climb into the sky and every
evening it would fall beneath the
horizon. When Sarah was sixty-eight years old she had seen the sun rise
and set almost twenty five thousand times. And over thousands of years
untold numbers of people, some who were like Sarah and others who were not
like her, also had their lives marked by the rising and the setting of the
sun. And for these human inhabitants of the earth all that is, was, and
would be began and ended with each of them, because eternity is not just
all human beings – it is every human being." -- from Sarah, by

We have good moods and bad moods. The dispositions that possess us can derive from the facts of our experiences or the fictions of our illusions. They can be tied to our circumstances or our philosophies. They can link to how things were or how things are or how things will be. And regardless of their nature they describe who we are as a person, and how we will react to life's events, and so something else they are is our destiny.
In any case, a positive outlook on life enables us to express our talents, so that we might serve both society and ourselves. In the end, isn't this what the human being is meant to do?

Hearing the Angels Speak
It is the children who hear the angels speak. They hear them because they are bold enough to hear them, and are not intimidated by the noises that try to smother them. And the angel voices are music to them, and give them wings. But when children grow into adults the voices cease, and as adults they look for the time – hope for the time – when they’ll hear them again. Click Here
The Diabolical Genius of Place
Place is said to have a genius all its own. If this is so, then it is a diabolical kind of genius. Although place is fixed, she does not confer permanence to human wishes and dreams. Although human beings dwell within place, she does not grant their illusions dominion over her. In the end, place divides people, and categorizes them and measures them, and, ultimately, makes them her servants. Click Here
The Character of a Woman
Pure and undefiled goodness, the goodness of the angels, is not likely to mark the character of any woman. A woman is not so translucently pure that she casts no shadow. Women are human beings, and not caricatures, and ambiguity colors them as much as it does the men. But women, and especially when they become wives and mothers for the first time, are reservoirs of emotion. Their hearts become receptacles for many and varied humors, humors that lay in all gradations of intensity, including the most extreme. And they take special comfort in pondering about the good that is in people. If the man’s name is derived from a trait of human character, the woman’s name is given by God. Click Here
The Thing a Woman Doesn't Understand
The woman believes it is all right for people to set aside a part of their lives for themselves. She knows it is good for a person to flee from the aggravations that others sometimes cause. She also knows it is good to seek haven from the storms that situations sometimes bring. She understands these things because the human soul, for how much it yearns to be in communion with other human souls, is ultimately a private and solitary thing. But the woman also knows that too much privacy is a toxin more lethal than any other. When the soul becomes isolated it causes the person to turn inward, and when she turns inward, she uncovers the demons that stalk the heart. Click Here
The Demon That is Truth
If place possesses an evil of its own, then truth can be a kind of demon too. Although truth, like place, is fixed, it is more likely than place to have its essence misshapen. Unlike place, which does not surrender to the wind and the rain, truth is easily corroded by the elements that batter it. Click Here
